Sherry’s newest book of poems, Under World, is now out, available through www.tleavesbooks.com, your own independent book store, from the publisher at www.outriderspoetryproject.com, or from Amazon. It explores both the traditions of visiting an underworld and returning, and her own experiences. Don’t forget to read a blurb below by Pulitzer Prize winning poet Carl Dennis. To learn more about Sherry’s Under World, as well as her previous books, please visit her books section – found in the menu or by clicking here.
“Sherry Robbins’ UNDER WORLD is both a book of poems of private grief over the death of two siblings and a mythic journey, both an attempt to work through a personal loss and to enact a ritual of an archetypal traveler into the underworld that all pilgrims must descend into and return from to fulfill their quest. Like the poet’s spirit guide, Emily Dickinson, Robbins’ speaker is both vulnerable sufferer and impersonal sibyl as she leads us on the journey we all must make to be fully human. So distinctive is our poet’s voice, so intense its harsh music, that we never question her authority to serve as our guide. We go where she leads us, and are grateful for the experience. This is a brave, bold, mysterious book, and a remarkable achievement.”
