Social Isolation: Day 9

A man under a shelter
            bellows into his phone
“Lord, we ask that you heal him and… . “
Just past him a girl
            released from her car seat
toddles off in sequined sneakers
            giggling, knees high.
It’s almost warm today,
            coats unzipped
and hats stuffed into pockets.
    Walkers smile and nod
from other paths.

“Restoration in Progress”
            the park sign promises
just before Tom calls to say
            someone was sent home
with a fever.

Restore    Restore   Restore
   the beat I walk to
as we reassure each other
            in whispers through the phone.
