Social Isolation: Day 44
An all-day rain
stretches all down
the East coast today,
no storm, just rain,
steady, gentle,
greening already electric
green grass, green leaves.
dropping patterns into pools
that look like conversations.
This is not a day for long walks,
not a day for briefings.
This is a day to watch the robin,
fluffed out against the rain,
pull and tease the smallest twigs
into her bright gold beak
and fly them back to the wet branch
where she means to build her nest.
A great while ago the world begun
says the man who often sang of rain.
