Social Isolation: Day 45

May Day. May Day.
This is a day
we used to dance
around Maypoles,
jump fires,
weave flowers
into each other’s hair.

This is a day nuns taught us
(priests didn’t like it)
to build May altars
in our homes.
O, Mary, we crown thee
with blossoms today.

Mayday. A call for help.
This is a day
we used to march in the streets.
The people united
will never be defeated.

This is a day, a May day,
we may be isolated,
but I will call to hear your voice
and together, miles apart,
we can stare out separate windows
at this ancient fertile world.
