Genesis
Fifth Day
God knows what lives
in Heaven’s Mirror Creek
brown with silt and duck dirt
but fish still propel themselves
up out of it for
mayflies gnats
wings
a provocation
And the green heron
found only here
fishes with its long
long beak in the still
air still brown creek
While several states away
a slow slow storm
reenacts the Flood
and fish find themselves
on streets birds stunned
in nests of omelette shoppe detritus
the beginning the fifth day
(loving? hungry? provoked?)
pulls the end back inside itself.
