Social Isolation: Day 59
Birdsong ramps up today
to an impossible complexity
it draws me out, around
the sinuous curves of the creek,
through swirling clouds
of apple blossom and into
what is meant to be
the school playing fields,
empty now but for someone,
sixteen, risking everything
to make out behind the bleachers
with another someone,
and I won’t question anymore
than birds or blossoms would
whether the kiss is worth it,
or why this particular sentence
keeps running on and on…
