Social Isolation: Day 71
Social Isolation: Day 71
Green heron
on a half-sunk log
scanning the creek
for breakfast,
you are startled
into low flight
by my approach.
Heavy lift
and downward push
of big green wings.
I was meant to be
in school today,
and every day,
yet here I am, alone and
startled myself by the
sight of you who are
found only here,
only on this creek,
and rarely.
The drab green
fish beneath you
live the life they’ve got
for now, as if you
were never here.
And I mean no harm,
of course, but why
not fly if you can fly?
Why not keep
your green life to yourself?
